My roommate twisted my arm. It wasn’t hard to do. I had told myself that I wouldn’t see any other shows….
Well, that was a lie.
Mary Poppins beat out all my expectations. After all the shows I have seen this summer, it was one of my favorites. Mostly because Disney has poured so much money into the set for the show and it pretty much makes any other show’s set look like cardboard cutouts.
Disney, of course, never fails to make magic happen.
The theatre itself was also so worth $32—so beautiful!
Of course, it was the same beloved story of a magical nanny who whips two children, Jane and Michael, into shape while also helping them to believe that anything can happen if they use their imagination. Simultaneously, she helped a work-obsessed father realize how valuable his children really were.
The only “disappointment”: the mother was not her women’s-rights-loving-self. But that really didn’t change much about the magic of the story!
The best scene? Mary Poppins, Bert, Jane and Michael’s dance scene to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Did you know that if you say it loud it enough you almost sound precocious?
Mary Poppins even took Shambry and I on a magical journey somewhere….
Of course, I had to have the awkward picture. No doubt my strong suit.

Another big thing for the day?
200 days until UNC DANCE MARATHON 2012!!
I have mixed feelings because I am thrilled to be so close to the marathon and yet scared because I have a whole lotta fundraising left to do!!
Merchandise, canning, and direct mailing—Oh my!
I’m SO ready for the madness. I’m so ready for the magic that is UNC-DM.
All for the kids at the North Carolina Children’s Hospital!

I packed up a large portion of my room tonight, making me feel less-stressed about the week ahead.
Hopes for the week:
(1) To produce a really amazing NDSS Times Square Video. I got a huge portion of it completed today.
(2) To visit the Natural History Museum before I leave because I have a free voucher! But they close at 5:45, so we’ll have to see.
(3) To get a cookie at Levaine (spelling?) because I heard “they defy science by having melted chips even when they aren’t hot.” That’s exactly how it was explained to me, which got my attention obviously.
(4) To show my parents some really amazing adventures while they are here. And then safely travel home to North Carolina on Sunday.
(5) To visit Cake Boss at Carlos Bakery in Hoboken (and not have to wait that long in line—again, defying science)

Can’t wait to see my sister! And my nephew who now says my name…sort of.

Lastly, I leave you with this quote from Mary Poppins:
“Close your mouth please, Michael. We are not a codfish.”
