HodgePodge Monday

I'm not very good with one subject, one project, one book, one idea, or one thought for longer than 5 minutes and today's post exemplifies this. Welcome to Carrie's mind with things I've thought about, read, watched, etc.

1. Spread the Word to End the Word

 2. Jumpsuits/Long sleeve & long pant rompers are in in NYC...I'm talking the same pattern all over your body. Reminds me of onesies as a baby with the rubber feet. Let's hope this blows over quickly.
Sure, it's cute when you are 21 months...but girls are wearing this same outfit at 21 years.

3. Today's weather has been my favorite so far. Sure, it was cloudy, but it was about 70 degrees with a breeze and it reminded me of that sweet, sweet mountain weather in North Carolina... People ask me about my home state all the time and I find myself talking about the state like the ground is made of gold. In order to make up for the fact that I can't LITERALLY be in those rocking chairs for even 5 minutes, James Taylor has been on my Pandora pretty much all day/night.
I'll imagine myself for the moment sitting in those rockers

4. Some facts about Down Syndrome as learned from the National Down Syndrome Society
  • Also known as Trisomy 21
  • Individuals with DS have 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46 in each of their cells
  • A 35-year-old woman has a 1 in 350 change of having a baby with DS
  • Some traits that are most common: low muscle tone, flat facial profile, a small nose, an upward slant to the eyes, a single deep crease across the center of the palm.
  • Good medical care and early intervention can provide a strong foundation for your child's optimal development
5. I have an addiction to blogs. I've been reading blogs like it's my job, forgetting about the 10+ books I brought to accompany my journey... Blog entries are short and so real. I subscribed to about 8 last night alone.
Here's my current favorite blog: http://www.kellehampton.com/

6. Ever wondered how many pictures you are in on the background and you'll never know? I mean, in a city of 18 million, people are always taking pictures. I've been caught in a few. Wonder where they will end up?

7. For the most part, people do not recycle in New York City. Where do people put their bottles? In the trash can. I mean, I do it too. I'm just stating a thought of the day.

8. I'm a sucker for little kid videos. Like this one:
Oh and this one....

 9. The GRE. People are so ahead of me on this whole GRE process. That's on my to-do list that ultimately gets longer and longer by the day. I am dreading applications to graduate school. It's funny, because I know very little people who are planning to go into their profession after undergrad. Everyone is preparing for the next school they hope to attend.  I mean, jobs are hard to come by...If you need reminding, reference every post before this to see how hard it is to find a job in NYC (not that working at Crate & Barrel was my life's goal). :)

10. Postcards. I think they are the ultimate. So I am finishing up my 2nd batch to send out tonight.

11. UNC Dance Marathon Widget. I'm still trying to get the kinks worked out (you'll see the dimensions are off), but look to the side of my blog and see the new addition to the fundraising projects. Paypal sponsors this lovely widget, which can also be posted to Facebook and Twitter.  Social Media is now working for US! :) And that's something to be thankful for.

Peace. Love. FTK. NYC.
Carrie
P.S. I apologize in advance if you receive a letter, postcard or e-mail signed off with "FTK". It means "For the Kids" and it's totally normal that that's drilled in my head  so deep from UNC-DM that it's all I write. I promise. Actually, I don't apologize ;)

More of New York City tomorrow, weather permitting! I train at Haagen Dazs and I'm going to a museum mile festival. Stoked.
