The weekend with the family was great. Just hung out on the beach and by the pool and may have gotten a little red on my shoulders and forehead. The family and I also went to the aquarium where we saw the coolest display of sharks and rays. Collin claimed everything he saw "fish".
We also celebrated Mama's birthday with cake and *Haagen Dazs* ice cream. Of course, only the best for my mama. :)
It was good to be "at home" in the Carolinas if only for a short amount of time. The time flew by and it was nice to have a few days to chill and relax in the sun.

I flew back on July 4th. The plane was packed with lots of babies and I sat with a dad and his two-year-old son who only wanted to play peek-a-boo with me the entire time. He thought I was the bees knees.
My flight was delayed about an hour, so I went to pick up a magazine at Hudson News. But instead of a magazine, I ended up leaving with a book called The Happiness Project. It is a New York Times Bestseller and the author is Gretchen Rubin, a fellow New Yorker. Just like my favorite book, Eat. Pray. Love., Gretchen (we are on first-name basis) goes on a quest to find herself. But instead of traveling around the world, Gretchen instead stays in NYC and makes monthly changes for a year to better her happiness. My favorite quote so far?
" The days are long, but the years are short."
As I'm sitting there reading her witty words about her feeling as if something is missing in her life, I think to myself, "Yes, that's me. Right now." Something so indescribable to others that they'd look at you funny if you tried. For Gretchen, she was on a city bus with her two kids and wonderful husband and she asked herself, "Can this be me? Is this really it?" And it was at this point, that she officially decided to start the Happiness Project and see what more there was in her life.
I've been thinking a lot about that since I've been here. There's something so amazing about being here and about being independent. Like when you realize that you've been living this amazing life, but haven't stopped to think about truly why you are here and what your purpose is. I know, this is deep stuff for a blog...
...Anyways, this book is great and even though I don't have a husband or kids, it's so relateable and I couldn't put it down. Gretchen talks about things that are so "now" in my life, like about choosing careers or deciding where to live after college. She goes into great detail about her marriage and kids and how to be a better wife and mother and do what you love.
Anyways, amazing book. You can borrow it. Oh, and she has a blog. Extra cool points.
"The end of a melody is not its goal; but nonetheless, if the melody had not reached its end it would not have reached its goal either. A parable." - Friedrich Nietzsche

July 4th's fireworks display was gorgeous. The sunset was the best part though. I got some pretty amazing pictures with "little pink camera" as it's affectionately called.

I've been pretty slackidasical (new word) about the blog lately, but I've just been all over the place! Indeed, this is the most therapeutic thing, but for instance today I interned from 10-5 and then worked at Haagen Dazs from 6-11:30. Pretty long day. Anna Beth, Diane, and Ciarra are all coming this weekend! I'm pretty pumped--except I have to work Friday all day and have a fundraiser Saturday night and work Sunday... so I'm not sure how I'm going to see everyone.
Tomorrow I'm going to sit down and plan out how to accomplish everything I want to before I leave here!
Also, one more comment about today besides "it was long". After six weeks of watching the Casey Anthony trial, her being found not-guilty was.....ridiculous. I believe that the state of Florida chose the most uneducated people to decide this case. I don't care if she did the murder her not (which she did), but she didn't report her child missing for 31 days--child neglect. Watching and rewatching the decision makes me want to throw up. Currently, I'm watch 48 Hours special on the case!
On to tomorrow!
Peace. Love. NYC.
Carrie
