Sadness about graduation packed its bags, walked out my front door and hightailed down the gravel road I live on. The reason for the departure was simple: there was no reason to be upset about starting a new chapter. Friday I got my grades back and sighed in relief that graduation would for sure be in my future. The road ahead will (I'm sure) be long and uncertain, but beautiful. It's time to move forward, instead of being nostalgic and dwelling on the past. As Brad Paisley said in one of my favorite songs, "These are no where near the best years of your life." So much "good stuff" ahead.
That being said, summer hit quickly. Spring came to a screeching halt this week when temperatures reached 95 and the humidity caused you to wish you had not showered. The sweetness of summertime is here, which means spending increasing amounts of time outside, drinking blueberry beer, listening to country music (specifically this song), rolling down the windows, soaking up the sun, and enjoying a more relaxed approach to life. Friday night as I drove home from babysitting, I rolled down the windows with the light of the almost-full moon shining down on the highway ahead and I could smell the flowers on the side of the road and hear the hum of the nighttime. I never wanted to go inside.
I'm not the only one who is enjoying this time of year. Friday I got to hang out with some pretty cute kids. We spent the majority of the day outside and even spent time in a plastic baby pool, talking about "caterpizzlers", a new breed of caterpillars that crossed with the Twizzler candy. Oh, and lots of talk about how tadpoles turned into frogs-- I had no idea. Thank goodness for Google, because I got asked a lot of "But why, Carrie?" questions. The Internet is a beautiful thing.
Remember my love for anything Broadway? Last Summer, I spent so much of my time in NYC waiting in lines to receive good prices on shows. I was so lucky because Nana invited me to go see Wicked, which was playing at DPAC this weekend. Goodness, words cannot describe how much I love this show. I'd seen it a couple of years ago in New York with my parents, but it came back to life. Thank you, Nana, for that amazing experience! Wicked is hilarious and witty. Love it.
Lastly, I'd been dying to see this kid.
I miss him so much when I am away. I love being an aunt and I'm excited to spend the next few days with him. Yeah, and he's precious. (And he knows it).
Tonight when I got home he greeted me and we got through dinner with some interesting distractions that made him giggle and say, "Carrie funny." He also repeats absolutely everything you say. And I mean EVERYTHING. (sorry, Sis, if I rubbed off on him a bit).
Excited for what's ahead. Excited for tomorrow with Collin.
Always,
Carrie
