Sister, This City is Picking Up its Pace!

WHERE have these last few days gone?!

It all started Thursday morning at 7a.m. when I made the decision to go to the Sister Act theater to stand and wait for the box office to open. I had heard a rumor (and read online) that if you wait until the box office opens at 10a.m. on the day of the show, that they offer what's called "rush tickets", which are really cheap front row seats that they save for the "dedicated few" who are patient and who are willing to wait in line. I am neither patient, nor do I like to wait, and therefore I had to entice myself to go up there with the promise to myself that I would be dancing with the cast members that night and with an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese.

Standing in line, I instantly met two girls who were just as broadway/Glee crazy as I am. They had done rush tickets before and because I was the 10th in line, they told me that my chances of getting rush tickets were slim, but that I should just wait it out. An hour and 1/2 and bagel later, the doors to the box office opened. I was literally shaking as if I was about to do something completely illegal, and inside I knew that my chances were slim. Finally, it was my turn to request tickets. "I'll take a rush ticket if you have it," I said sheepishly.

The man looked at me and shook his head, saying, "Lucky you only want one because you have the last rush ticket of the day. That will be $26.50."

It was as if I'd won the golden ticket at Willy Wonka's factory. I quickly called my mom and dad and texted my sister. Can you believe it? But reality quickly set in that I was running late for my first Haagen Dazs adventure to cater on Park Avenue. I quickly hopped on a train, hurried over to the 8th Street store and shimmied into my uniform just as roll call began.

I catered for Haagen Dazs and cut and served ten 25 inch ice cream cakes for hundreds of employees. If you ever need a professional to cut your cake or ice cream into 1 and 1/2 inch cubes, please, don't hesitate to ask.

When I returned home from catering, my roommate was here! She is so great and from Texas, but goes to school in Oklahoma. Glad to have a roommate now and one who understands when I say I say "y'all".

I wish I could have had video of me going to Sister Act. If you know me, I have the mentality that I can figure out anything on my own. So I hopped on a train that I knew headed close to 52nd and 53rd. But wait. It's 52nd/53rd at Lexington. I needed Broadway. So I hopped into a cab, with a cabbie who immediately recognized my accent as southern and then proceeded to tell me why our politicians in NC are crazy. I throw a ten at him and thanked him for his political expertise and ran to the theatre in heels where I made it just in time. Five minutes to curtain. Hallelujah.

There are no words to describe Sister Act. The movie was okay (sorry, Whoopi), but this...THIS was utter fabulous. If I only see one show while I'm here, I am SO GLAD that it was that one. When I got out, I immediately started texting everyone about it. And sitting in the front row, I literally got to dance with the cast members in the final scene when all hell breaks loose with the pope and there's a dance party that rocks the rafters. I was breathless.

And the comedy. Hello?! Who knew that there could be so many Catholic/Protestant/pope/etc. jokes? I laughed so hard. BUT (side note)... There was a mother and daughter in line who got rush tickets with me and they must have had some personal connection to the show or had been nuns another life or had had a little too much wine with dinner because everything, I mean everything was bend- over, slap-your-knee, laugh-for-ten-minutes hysterical. In fact, the conductor of the orchestra asked them to "shhh". That was one of the funniest parts of the show.

Anywho, Sister Act won my heart and Carrie's Tony Awards, which is a very official award. I give Carrie's Tony to the main character, the costumes, the lyrics, and the three criminals. Congratulations you guys!

The main charchter who played Cartier had attitude and hysterical jokes!

Waking up this morning after dreaming of being on broadway (what a wonderful career!), I went over to my internship to hang out with my girl Maddie (shoutout!) :) While I was at lunch with my roomie, I got a call about going into work at Haagen Dazs early so I went at 4p.m. and left at 11:30 p.m. We were pretty busy and I was on my feet for so long. Sitting down now and writing to you guys makes me realize how ridiculously exhausted I am from that. BUT, I am making some dough!

There's a farmer's market tomorrow morning and I kind of want to go investigate. I think my roommate and I are going to go visit Governor's Island and Ellis Island tomorrow and see the Statue of Liberty up close, too.

Can I get a whoop whoop for the tourists?

Peace. Love. Haagen Dazs. Exhaustion.
Carrie
