Pedaling Backwards

I arrived at the gate three hours before my flight was expected to take off. Eager to see friends and reminisce on the past year, I was headed home. Back to North Carolina. Back to UNC. Back to Dance Marathon. NYC can be fun, exciting and constant, but home has my heart. And I had been longing for some slowing-down, loving-life, hugging friends’ time. It was finally my moment.

UNC Dance Marathon played a huge role in my experience at Carolina. I met some of my greatest friends, raised a lot of money, and moved out of my comfort zone for a cause that remains near to my heart. Home

The weekend was better than I imagined. Filled with passion and motivation. All 14 members of the Overall Committee created an event that left participants and alumni eager to go out into the world and make a difference. I'm incredibly proud of them.

Especially proud of this girl... Awkward pictures are a must.

The weekend in many ways left me longing for last year. I had missed the Overall Committee and I cried when we had to leave. (Goodbyes are not my strong point). But we will be together again soon. The weekend challenged me to go out and do good. Go make a new home that will make a difference elsewhere.

Most importantly, I remembered that no matter where life takes you-- or how far you move-- you can always return home. And it's okay to miss a place. Miss an experience. Miss people. It makes returning home so much sweeter.

It's a temporary job until June, but I love it so far and I think it'll be an amazing experience. I'm working on an event called Man & Woman of the Year. Check it out here.

Wheeee! Whirlwind of a few months. More to come!
